After my heavenly liveaboard experience in Cairns I wanted to treat myself to one more special experience. Having spent 3 days swimming, I knew it was time to spend some time on land.
After doing some research I landed on the 1 Day Cape Tribulation & Daintree Tour with Mossman Gorge ran by Sightseeing ToursAustralia.
The booking process was seamless, and the were more than happy to assist with any questions I had prior to the tour.
After an early morning pickup, we headed straight into the Daintree National Park. The drive flew by and before we knew it, we were on a crocodile and wildlife spotting tour.

River Cruise
When booking holidays, I am always keen to book eco-friendly and the Daintree River Cruise was perfect!
Our guide so knowledgeable on the area and pointed out so many amazing animals we would have missed without them! It was the perfect day, and we managed to see the trifecta of crocodiles, snakes AND goanna. It was an amazing way to start the day.
Daintree Rainforest
Feet firmly back on the ground we began to explore the Daintree Rainforest. The lush greenery was a stark comparison to the clear waters I’d been in for the past few days. I couldn’t believe just how many shades of green I was seeing!
We looked for the terrifying endangered cassowary and learnt all about the creatures and plants we were seeing from our guide.
As we walked deeper into the rainforest, we could hear the soft bubbling of freshwater streams. I’ve never seen such a beautifully diverse range of plants in one day!
Cape Tribulation
What a view!! The perfect combination of both beach and rainforest I was gobsmacked by its beauty.
Here we sat down with a stellar picnic lunch and got to wander around the beach. It looked –and felt- like we were the stars of a travel postcard! I opted to pay slightly extra to have my lunch included and I’m so glad I did. It was great value plus it was so easy to not stress about taking food with me.
Mount Alexander Lookout
Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, we headed up to the Mount Alexander Lookout. Here we could see the Daintree River snaking through the landscape. We could even see all the way to Port Douglas!
Here we learnt about the significance of the lookout to the local Aboriginal people and learnt more about the culture of the Eastern Kuku Yalanji people.
Mossman Gorge
It was lovely to sit and listen to our surrounds in Mossman Gorge while having some afternoon tea. Truly the perfect picnic spot it was a rare opportunity to just be with our surrounds and let their strength overwhelm us all. It’s rare for a place to make you feel as small as I did in Mossman Gorge. It was a lovely feeling, to remember how amazing the world can be when humans haven’t ruined it.
Rex Lookout
Finally, the day came to an end at Rex Lookout. In an almost poetic twist here we could see out over the Great Barrier Reef, nicely bookending my trip to Cairns.
Named after Raymond Rex, who fought to prevent the land being developed on, Rex Lookout was a reminder of how incredible the nature of Australia is.
Final Thoughts!
Wowzers it was a busy day when I lay it all out like that! That said, I couldn’t recommend this tour highly enough. I cannot explain just how personable the staff were, and I am so glad I chose to go through Sightseeing Tours Australia.
